I had a thyroidectomy 5 yrs ago and my values have been optimal until now. my tsh went from 2.1 in march to 6.6 now. what can cause this increase?

Significant: TSH elevation can be related to hypothyroidism and/or low circulating free thyroxine. I suggest a throid scan with uptake and/or an ultrasound of your thyroid.

Absence of thyroid: Your body senses t hat your thyroid is low and is producing more TSH to try to push the thyroid to produce more hormone but there is no thyroid to respond to the signal. I suspect that the thyroid replacement dose may not be sufficient and you should contact your doctor to adjust t he dose of the thyroid pill.
