Chlorine exposure: In a pool chlorine is often added to assure the safety of the water. It will often convert to chlorine gas & be off gassed at the surface, particularly if there is excess used or on a very sunny day. This can form a layer of gas near the surface where water polo players are breathing. The gas is a potent trigger to an asthma like response in even normal people. Check with the pool management/doc.
