Oral herpes: Oral herpes (fever blister, cold sore) outbreaks occur mostly on or near the lips, but they're also common elsewhere like the nose. Between outbreaks, the virus (HSV1) occupies nerve ganglia. There's no special reason for the nose or other places, just the luck of which nerve(s) happen to be infected. Treatment is easy and effective: single dose of valacyclovir (Valtrex). Discuss w/ MD
