A member asked:

She is going through puberty & has not had her 1st menstrual cycle. the past 2 months she has been experiencing discharge daily. should i be concerned that most days there is a slight brownish smear on her panty liner? no itching or smell present.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not unusual: The lead up to first menses is often marked by a straw colored daily discharge. It can last up to 6 mo or so. This follows breast bud formation as the 1st obvious indicator of things to come. I would consider this part of her normal transition & let her know. She should also begin carrying a few extra things with her as she may start at any point.
