A member asked:

Uti culture came back as colonizing enterobacter. on cipro. symptoms quickly resolving. how did i get this particular bacteria? isn't uti caused by e.coli? does this mean i'm immunocompromised? i rarely ever get sick. very worried.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Enterobacter: If you had over 100,000 colonies and symptoms, I'd consider it a uti rather than colonization. This organism is seen as hospital acquired or in people who have been on antibiotics in the recent past. Repeat the clean catch urine culture and sensitivity and colony count to ensure complete eradication of the enterobacter and determine the most effective antibiotic in case it's not eradicated.
