A member asked:

How concerning is blood in your stool? i get it every few weeks and my parents are never concerned. should i go to a doctor?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Bright red blood attached to the outside of a stool is usually from a crack/scratch in the outlet. They are more common with drier/bulky stools. These self heal & improve if you poop more often & change your diet to avoid constipating foods. Darker blood mixed within a stool is worrisome for some infectious process or a disorder within your gut.
