Saline & more: Individual circumstances may differ, but some common forms of aftercare include cleaning the wound with saline and applying topical antibiotics (e.g., cream form). The silver nitrate may cause the laceration to take on a gray color. That’s normal. On the next dressing change, if a removal of the gray color is desired, saline-soaked gauze may be useful in wiping the color away.
