Most likely OK: Pain, swelling and numbness after hernia surgery is normal. The numbness will last for a long time, but you will get used to it in time. Pain and swelling usually goes away within 4-6 weeks. If the swelling increased, was associated with redness or any drainage, it might be due to infection, in which case you need to see your surgeon right away. Avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting 6 weeks
