Usually,a viral: infection; however, lymph node cancer ( lymphoma) or infection ( lymphadenitis) are possibilities. A biopsy is sometimes the most diagnostic test along with serial CBCs. The rash would seem to point toward a viral infection; however you must be seen and evaluated by BOTH your PCP and a head/neck specialist ( usually, an ENT ).
