Risk of heart attack: A bad (ldl) cholesterol of 248 is too high. It is probably genetic in origin. It can lead to early atherosclerosis (blocked arteries) and to heart attack, angina, stroke or peripheral arterial disease. The risk of these would be increased if there was also smoking, high blood pressure, low good (HDL) cholesterol, diabetes or a family history. Treatment is easy, safe and effective with statin drugs.
