A member asked:

Is a blood clot most likely to break off in the first week? then it lodged into the vein so it makes it less likely ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not exactly: A clot can continue growing even if the old part has become attached to the wall of the vein. The conditions that caused the clot in the first place may still be in play and cause new clots to form.
