The basics: There is a tube that runs from the back of your throat to the middle ear that allows air to enter if it will open, equalizing the pressure. With a cold it may be swollen closed & hard to make work. If it is ready to open it can with yawning, which straightens out the tube. You can also pinch your nose closed & try to force air through it which may push air into the tube. It may take weeks to work
