A member asked:

I had paragard inserted & the nurse checked it the next day to make sure it was in place. what are the chances of expulsion/displacement? is it common

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It can happen: IUD expulsion can and does occur. Sometimes patients will note severe cramping prior to expulsion. The best defense is to regularly check the string of the IUD which can be felt inside the vagina at the opening of the cervix. Have a nurse or MD show you how to do so until you are comfortable that you can indeed feel the string.
