Sorry to hear : My condolences. There are many things that can make the heart stop beating which may or may not have been related to the cancer. A blood clot, a large heart attack, a lack of blood flow going through it, electrolyte abnormalities, too much fluid going through the heart or surrounding the heart, ECT ect.
