There are many: 1) regulate body's fluid & eletrolyte balance. This is done by first filtering water & electrolytes from blood & reabsorbing as much as body requires. 2) eliminates waste products of muscle & protein metabolism (primarily BUN & creatinine). 3) hormonal function: erythropoetin production which regulates red blood cell production & renin which helps to regulate blood pressure.
