Curable, comes back: Chronic bacterial vaginosis (BV) means the infection may be treated and cured when you have it but that it commonly comes back. While sexual activity is a risk factor, it is not completely understood how BV spreads. Not having sex, using condoms, limiting number of partners, and avoiding douching (if you do) may help lower the risk of repeat BV infections.
