A member asked:

Does lifelong asthma mean i will have enphysema?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Asthma is a spastic and inflammatory disease of the airways that causes reversible obstruction of the bronchial tubes. It usually responds to Rx. Emphysema is a diseased lung tissue, especially damage to the alveoli (small air sacks) at the end of the bronchial tubes, is not reversible & responds less well to Rx. It is possible to have both, and good Rx of the asthma can improve life quality.
