Expected: The flu does target tissues within the lung and will damage various cells within. The damaged cells and internal mucus will take time to be coughed out. Medications do little to change this natural process. Having a good fluid balance and rest is the mainstay of recovery. Meds that help thin mucus like mucinex can help some, but is usually takes 2-4 wks for the process to end.

Nasal saline: Nasal saline and a cool air mist humidifier may help to reduce post nasal drip and cough. If the cough lingers more than 2 weeks, then a visit with your PCP is indicated. Continue to monitor the temperature and please call your physician if there is a fever.
