A 41-year-old member asked:

When should someone get tested for adult add?

Dr. Glenn Archibald
Psychiatry 37 years experience
If you have symptoms: While there is no specific or definitive test for adhd per sa, several rating scales have been employed combined with a complete history to make the diagnosis. With regard to the question, you get tested if you think you have the symptoms enough to interfere with your level of functioning. We think it's inherited, so of you have family and symptoms, get evaluated.

Dr. Robert Killian
General Practice 28 years experience
Adult ADD: First, in our over stimulated lives, most of us at times feel we cannot get it all done, and are overwhelmed. I often see this question as a cry for help. True attention deficit diagnoses should be made by a competent mental health provider. The diagnosis usually includes a childhood history of these symptom and/ or treatment for such. Get tested and get some help if it is warranted.
