Non-ovulatory blood: Brown discharge is most likely old blood from slow spotting. Many girls this age do not ovulate regularly, so the lining of the uterus builds up until there is spotting and finally a period. If there is odor or if this continues after the period is over, discuss this with her physician. Hormone imbalance from a thyroid condition or PCOS or eating disorder, etc., can affect periods.
