Femur pain: Has an orthopedic specialist been consulted? If the hip area is tender it could be chronic hip bursitis which may not show on simple xrays . Seek a second opinion from another orthopedic specialist if one has already evaluated your husband. Additional imaging studies like an mri of the hip may be needed in order to make a diagnosis.
