Joint pain: The commonest cause of chronic joint pain in older people is osteoarthritis due to wearing away of cartilage. Joint stiffness is not inflammation. Other causes of arthritis include. rheumatoid arthritis or other autoimmune diseases, gout, pseudogout,psoriasis,Lyme disease. Inflamed tendons,sprain or overuse can cause joint pain.

There are hundreds of causes for joint pain ranging from trauma to infection to autoimmune diseases to hematologic diseases to metabolic diseases to tumors to birth defects to growth defects. See your primary care physician first and bring a description of the pain with you including the location of pain, how long has it been there, is it constant or not, what makes it better or worse, etc.
