A member asked:

How is a patient diagnosed with hypergonadism? what do doctors typically look for & test for if they suspect this possibility.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hypergonadism ?: Hypergonadism in either males or females can cause early sexual development ("precocious puberty"), and rarely can arise from a gonadal tumor, which produces either estrogen or testosterone. Levels of serum estrogen or testosterone should be checked, and if elevated, ultrasound or a CT of the gonads may diagnose a tumor.
