Tonsils: Tonsils are part of our immune system, are lymphoid tissue and fight infection. When they are objects of recurrent strep infections or are too enlarged and blocking the airway system, they are often surgically removed.

The sentry post: The palatine "tonsils" are specialized immune sentries. They are located at the entrance to the digestive tract where your tissue is more vulnerable because of its absorptive qualities. This is where most germs enter from your fingers/feeding. They react to germs/viruses by triggering immune factors.
