Abnormal "period": If pregnancy is possible, get a serum HCG test to be certain about pregnancy. Sometimes a clot will be large enough to block the flow of menstrual blood, and when the clot is pushed out by uterine contractions, the flow will increase briefly. If the test is positive , see your gyn physician to make sure pregnancy is not outside the uterus (ectopic), which will need immediate attention.
