U can tell yourself: Lactose intolerance is related to an absence of the enzyme to digest the lactose. Symptoms will depend on how much you ingest at one setting. Milk contains a lot, so you can have bloating, cramping, acid poop. Sharp cheddar cheese has very little, so it created no problems in most. Read labels & avoid lactose for a while, if symptoms disappear you likely have it. A formal test is not needed
