Some basics: Strep A is universally sensitive to penicillin and penicillin derived drugs like cefuroxime. A strep throat confirmed by test would respond with decline of high fever within 48-72 hrs. Some fever may persist. If there is a co-infection with a virus like mono, that can present the same way & be strep +, the clinical course may be prolonged for weeks.
