Lab work is needed: Swollen lymph nodes are usually due to infections. When the swelling persists for months, it is necessary to do more testing to rule out more serious conditions like lymphoma. Your physician might order a complete blood count, uric acid , and lactate dehydrogenase, among others. A chest xray is helpful to rule out a mediastinal mass with these symptoms.
