Medications , GERD: Could also be related to GERD and or ACE inhibitor ( Depending on age and medications currently on). I agree with allergies also.

Several causes: Cough, in general, is a marker of an irritated lower and upper airway. The cause if cough can be very minor ( for example post nasal drip from a cold) to very serious ( cancer). A thorough examination by a physician and possible some selective tests can help run in and run out the numerous causes of a cough.
