Good bowel habit &: Establish a routine, sitting on potty twice a day, after breakfast & supper. Increase fiber intake-soluble fibers in apple & prune juice, 2-3 times a day & nonsoluble fiber, e.g., corn flakes, raisin bran. Bowel softener such as Miralax as needed.

Good luck : With this level of problems at 3 you are in for a long journey.Kids get piles/chronic constipation at 3 from trying not to go because it hurts. X-rays of their colon often reveal ballooning of the large intestines, which can take a year or more to normalize with a good bowel rehab program. I would find a developmental pediatrician or pedi GI person with experience in this & start a program.
