Very doubtful but:: Amniotic fluid embolism is very rare, none reported to be caused by a perineal laceration. However, there is a report of uterine fundal pressure applied to the mother during delivery caused both an AFE and a perineal laceration. Some other factor in the delivery process caused the AFE. Ask the doctor about the cause of the AFE. If not happy with the explanation, get a formal second opinion
