Abnormal cells: Cervical cancer begins when healthy cells acquire a mutation which causes them to turn into abnormal cells. It isn't clear what causes cervical cancer, but there are risk factors which include HPV & other sexually transmitted infections, early sexual activity, many sexual partners, a weak immune system, smoking, a diet low in fruit and vegetables, being overweight, IUD use, & many pregnancies.
