Yes and no: HSV is spread by skin-to-skin contact. The virus lives in nerve cells but does not spread to different areas on its own. If you touched active virus at your mouth and then touched the vulva, the virus could have spread that way. The virus can be active without a specific cold sore, so even if no obvious outbreak, it can be spread from one location to another.
