Herpes Type I and II: Type I herpes is usually detected when an oral lesion is present, but virus can be present w/o a "cold sore". Herpes type II is a genital variety, and is easily transmitted by any kind of genital contact or hands touching genitals which have viral content. The problem is that even Herpes II virus can be present w/o a genital lesion or "sore". Blood tests can detect exposure.
