How so: OBGYNs often perform screening tests to select out those with a higher risk of birth defects or other problems. These are generally cheaper but less reliable than confirmatory tests. They are meant to select out those in need of a 2nd level confirmatory test that can define your risk to a much higher degree. A positive screen just means you need more testing, not that a problem is certain.
