A member asked:

Could a pharyngeal pouch cause chronic gerd due to pressure to the les sphlinter?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

PP gives swallowing: problems, or dysphagia. It occurs in the neck region and may be related to abnormal pressure in the upper ES which usually relaxes with swallowing. Food can then be trapped in this pouch, and cause regurgitation of food, choking, chronic cough and hoarseness. GERD is caused by hiatal hernia or abnormal LES.
