Neonatal infection: Neonates may have a number of conditions which cause seizures. Among these infections including Herpes are important to consider and diagnose.

Distinctive if so: Neonatal herpes has a rather distinctive pattern of Swiss cheese destruction of brain tissue if the infant survives with treatment. It would be evident on CT scan. There are many possible causes of neonatal seizures & hydrocephalus. Most can be sorted out through lab tests.
