Elastic vaginas: Vaginas are made up of a distensible circular lining surrounded by a stretchy muscle. The entrance of the vagina has to be gently expanded upon entry during intercourse with lubricant or a finger especially if a hymen is present.. Water soluble gels like K-Y supplement the body's own lubrication system when aroused if needed to avoid tears.

Lubricant: In general vaginal tearing should not occur during intercourse. Vaginas are designed to deliver a baby so it should easily accommodate a penis. Foreplay is needed to help the vagina lubricate. In some cases an artificial sexual lubricant can be added. The male partner should be taught how to insert gently and comfortably through your guidance and feedback.
