A member asked:

On post-exp prop (pep). on day 8 after exposure headache, sore throat. dr ordered hiv antibody/p24 test. negative. was this test valuable taken at day 10 after exposure if these were indeed acute hiv symptoms ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not antibody test: Antibody test would have been useful if positive. A negative result at this stage does not rule infection. In fact no negative test result, including one of HIV nucleic acid would rule out infection this soon after exposure.
