Period changes: At 39, the ovaries require more stimulation from the pituitary in order to produce an egg, this causes higher levels of estrogen which support the lining of the uterus. When no pregnancy occurs, estrogen stops abruptly, and the uterine lining may start to degenerate slightly ahead of the full flow which happens a bit later.
