Citalopram used to be prescribed up to 60 mg/day, and I've prescribed it confidently and repeatedly at doses of 80 mg/day in the past. However, there's now a concern about QTc prolongation, a cardiac condition that can be very serious/lethal, and so other medical conditions and medications you might be taking matter.
