No way to know: There is no such thing as "outbreak w/o sores". If there are no sores, it's not an outbreak. However, the virus can be present without symptoms, and can be transmissible to a sex partner (asymptomatic shedding of the virus). There is no way to know when this happens; it's random. Do you know your virus type? Asymptomatic shedding is far more often with HSV2 than HSV1.
