Possible infection: The purple skin discoloration is consistent with a burst vein, but the redness now suggests inflammation, either from the blood in the tissue causing a tissue reaction, or else from infection. If the finger is quite swollen &painful, she should be evaluated. Otherwise, try some cool compresses and elevation.
