My mother (62) is feeling very sick and just wants to sleep. she had blood test done about 4 weeks back and it indicated that she has iron deficiency, and her gp said she needed blood. she was refused hospitalisation then due to a admin issue. ?

Doctor can recheck: Adults with low blood counts need to find a diagnosis. The reason could be serious, such as cancer in the bowel (leaking blood cells there), or cancer in the bone marrow (losing ability to make blood cells). Thus, a full evaluation is needed. Age 62 is no longer considered old... so, get diagnosed and get treated. Very low blood can mean lower blood flow to the heart, thus risking a heart attack.
