Diphenhydramine: Depending on your tolerance to the side effects, diphenhydramine (Benadryl) OTC is a reasonable oral medication that can reduce itching. It can make you drowsy, but it is helpful. 25-50 mg is a common dose. Chilled compresses for troublesome focal areas also helps.
