Elevated T is seen: with both idiopathic hirsutism (may have normal menses and ovaries) and PCOS as well as congenital adrenal hyperplasia, which is usually detected at birth with ambiguous genitalia. T is mainly made by the ovaries but is also produced by the adrenal gland. Over stimulation of the adrenal by a pituitary adenoma as in Cushings Disease can also cause elevated T. Weight loss is often helpful for PCOS
