A member asked:

I had a scan for pcos, came back normal, but i have high testosterone levels. will having this always result in pcos? what causes high testosterone?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

High LH and insulin: PCOS develops when the ovaries overproduce testosterone. Testosterone overproduction often results from overproduction of LH (luteinizing hormone), which is produced by the pituitary gland located in the brain.Research also suggests that when insulin levels in the blood are high enough, the ovary can be stimulated to produce more testosterone.
