Yes, but...: Doxycycline can be used to treat strep throat infections (caused by strep bacteria), but other antibiotics are better choices, such as penicillin, amoxicillin, azithromycin, cephalexin, etc... Sore throats that are caused by viruses, stomach acid reflux, or allergies, benefit from other treatments instead of antibacterial antibiotics. Viral sore throats usually do not have an antiviral treatment.
