A member asked:

My toenail was removed last fall. the toenail itself grew back small and lifted about 1/4 of an inch from the toe. i was wondering why that is?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Toenail Removed: When your toenail was removed last fall, what were the circumstances surrounding the toenail removal? Did you injure your nail, or did you have an infection? Both of these things can cause damage to your nail bed. Once a nail bed is damaged, the toenail may or may not grow back. If your toenail is growing back small and lifting, it is lifting at the part of the bed that has been damaged.
