Syrup: This is probably an early viral upper respiratory tract infection. To soothe a scratchy throat and a dry,unproductive,hacking cough, take a cough suppressant syrup that contains dextromethorphan, like RobitussinDM. To promote and loosen mucus, take a syrup like guaifenesin.
